Qigong is an acient Chinese health care system that involves physical postures, breathing techniques and focus. The word Qigong is made up of two Chinese words. Qi means the life force or vital energy that flows through all things in the universe. Gong means accomplishment or skill that is cultivated through a steady practice. Together Chigong means cultivating energy for healing and increasing vitality.
Qigong is different from normal exercise routines because it teaches us to be aware of the body and to focus on the breath. Breathing helps to calm the nervous system, lower blood pressure, and reduce stress. Qigong has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions.
A consistent practice of Qigong has helped many regain a youthful vitality and helps speed recovery from illness. It reestablishes the body, mind, and souls connection. When these three aspects are integrated, it encourages a positive outlook on life and helps to eliminate negative attitudes and behaviors.
